A view of the Duomo and Campanile from the Piazza della Repubblica. This piazza was created in the 1860's and entailled massive urban renewal (destruction of houses). This area was the jewish ghetto of Florence and creation of the piazza resulted in both the destruction of Florence's main jewish synagogue and the necessity to build a new one.
